Resident Evil Revelations won't be expensive After All
By Mat Growcott
resident-evil-revelations-won-t-be-expensive-after-all

Capcom's upcoming 3DS title Resident Evil Revelations was said to be so big that they couldn't possibly sell it at the usual price and bumped it up by ten dollars. This naturally annoyed the people who didn't want to pay a premium, ten dollars isn't a lot but they didn't understand the need for it. There was a risk of users either waiting for a price drop or buying pre-owned and Capcom have reacted appropriately; Resident Evil Revelations will now be $40.

Announced via Capcom Unity, the post... More »

Mojang Excited for Big Budget Minecraft Copies
By Mat Growcott

With Fortnite, the recently announced Zombie/Tower Defence game from Epic, the developers took a definite inspiration from Minecraft. Jens Bergensten, lead developer on Minecraft (he took over the project in December), looks forward to seeing where else inspiration their legacy can lead big developers with big budgets.

"I'm kind of looking forward to bigger companies taking on the same kind of genre, if you should call it that. Because I think it could make quite cool games, you know, the sandbox... More »

Kingdom Hearts 10th Anniversary Logo, Bundle Unveiled
By Mat Growcott
kingdom-hearts-10th-anniversary-logo-bundle-unveiled

Can you believe that it has been ten years since the first members of the public left Destiny Islands and started an adventure that would take them to into a magical castle, under the sea, inside a whale and into the Cave of Wonders? Kingdom Hearts, originally released March 22nd 2002, will be ten in only a couple of months and, to celebrate, Square Enix have got some 3DS bundle shaped plans.

As well as the fairly pretty Kingdom Hearts 3DS announced a couple of weeks ago, you'll also get a copy of... More »

why-stranger-s-wrath-and-other-oddworld-titles-are-unlikely-to-come-to-nintendo

It's pretty terrible that Stranger's Wrath HD won't be coming to 360, that's entirely down to Microsoft. It's also not coming to the Wii, although that was presumed to be thanks to size restraints on the system. There was still the chance it was coming to the Wii U though, but Stewart Gilray, in an interview with Digital Foundry, revealed to be unlikely, due to how Nintendo handle their third-party digital titles.

"With regards to Nintendo," he said, "currently I'm not interested... More »

rumour-assassin-s-creed-3-to-be-set-during-the-american-revolution

Other than a handful of hints offered by Ubisoft and the knowledge that Ezio will no longer be the main character of the series, we know very little about Assassin's Creed 3. Everything from Japan to America has been named as a potential setting, and time settings have been even more dicey with people guessing all sorts of things.

CVG reckons all that's about to change, thanks to an unnamed source who says the next game will be announced before the end of March. The source also says that the setting will be... More »

Treyarch Developing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for Next Gen
By Mat Growcott

It might seem like an obvious thing to say, it might not - the next generation of consoles is almost on us. Sure, we've not seen anything of Microsoft's console, nor has Sony given anything away about their future, but with the Vita and the Wii U both out this year and the 3DS having been available for nearly twelve months, we're starting to see how things are going to develop.

So it shouldn't be a surprise that Treyarch, one of the two development teams working on Call of Duty, have been calling for... More »

Rumour: Battlefield 3 to get American-based DLC
By Mat Growcott
rumour-battlefield-3-to-get-american-based-dlc

Yet another rumour concerning where DICE are going with their next DLC expansion for Battlefield 3 - expect it to be wrong. According to Youtube user TheAustrianToast, or rather to his sources (who aren't named), there is going to be an All American DLC set in and around major cities in the USA. New York City, Miami, New Jersey and LA were the cities he specifically named, I'm a little disappointed that there isn't Vegas.

Of course, this is early days and the All American pack needs to compete with both... More »

Soul Caliber V and the Ezio Factor
By Kiala Kazebee
soul-caliber-v-and-the-ezio-factor

I don't play a lot of fighting games—for no reason other than when I sit down to play something I prefer a story with more meat to it. Unless, of course, it's Hydrothunder which I will play every day until I die probably. However, I've been thinking about making an exception for Soul Caliber V (US release Jan 31) . One, because no one in my tweet stream will shut up about it and two because of the Ezio Auditore Da Firenze factor but not in the way you might think. Unless you think it's a sex thing and then yes exactly in the way... More »

6 Amazing Video Game Art Installations

You might not know Berlin based artist Aram Bartholl by name, but odds are good you've seen his work floating around the Web. Remember the massive Google Maps marker? What about the USB drives that popped up in brick walls across NYC? How about the time he helped build a fake Google Street View car, then pretended to track it with GPS and record the driver's antics?

Like those infamous examples, much of Bartholl's work centers around public installations and... More »

Racist Menu Items turn up in Minecraft
By Mat Growcott

A rogue translator has placed a naughty word in a version of Minecraft - try and see if you can see it. The picture above, courtesy of Kotaku, shows what happened when you switched your language to Afrikaans, the language of South Africa and Namibia. It has since been changed and the user who created the translation has been banned (and should have already been), but for a while people got  quite the shock.

This is thanks to a reliance on user-submitted translations of the game, the Mojang team not being able to... More »

the-gentle-path---a-plea-for-a-different-take-on-conflict-resolution-in-action-games

When it comes to games as a narrative medium, there’s one big issue that comes up again and again. That issue is the ludicrous bodycount most action games ramp up along the course of their main storyline. The protagonist kills people left and right, butchery is—most of the time—the main venue of pretty much every (action) game out there. It is a problem I have with the medium, and I know I’m not alone.

Nathan Drake of Uncharted is the most prominent example of this bipolar disorder of a... More »

By Josh Harmon

Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac Games, has released a video discussing the future of the Resistance franchise, following yesterday's announcement that the studio was finished with the series.

Insomniac has made no secret of the fact that they were moving into multiplatform development and away from their first-party franchises, but Price still wanted to take the time to clarify exactly what that depature means for Resistance fans.

"A question we’ve gotten a lot through the forums and emails... More »

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Locks Away Quests with Online Pass
By Ian Miles Cheong

In what should come as no surprise, Electronic Arts has locked away a number of quests (seven, to be precise) in Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning behind an online pass.

According to Jim Sterling of Destructoid, who made the discovery when he opened his review copy, the game comes bereft of a manual and only includes a single card containing the pass. Unfortunately for Sterling, the pass he was provided with was invalid, preventing him from exploring the content.

The pass provides the player to the... More »

Buried in the unholy trainwreck that is Kinect All Access: Episode 2 is the first official confirmation of an April release for Kinect Star Wars.

At around the 1:18 mark in the video, one of the hosts spills the beans with a bit of stitled copy. "We're about to show you a hot off the presses look at the modes that are available in the new Kinect Star Wars a full three months before the title is released [emphasis added]."

The video went up today on Microsoft's official... More »
