#7 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 & 2

cod modern warfare

For those that prefer team deathmatches, there are few better choices than this award-winning chapter in the CoD series, the first to deviate from the WWII setting of the previous games. Set in 2011, Modern Warfare follows the story of civil war in Russia after the execution of a Middle Eastern leader by a radical faction. Fighting takes place in multiple locations throughout the world, including Pripyat, Ukraine, a now-abandoned city right next door to the scene of the notorious Chernobyl disaster.

With access to modern weaponry such as rocket propelled grenades and C-4 explosive, gameplay is a natural continuation of previous titles with regard to movement, damage, and AI teammates. The multiplayer modes have won critical acclaim for use of somewhat unique strategies that must be agreed upon and employed by teammates during gameplay. Although this game did not necessarily revolutionize the FPS genre, it did set a new bar for the ways in which players must communicate and interact.

#6 Little Big Planet 2

little big planet 2

A giant vacuum has appeared over Little Big Planet, and is slurping up all of people who live there! Sackboy himself is sucked in, and all appears lost until Larry Da Vinci and The Alliance comes to his aid. In addition to new levels, all of the DLC and user-made levels from the original title will be available, as well as the ability to  various gameplay maneuvers to specific actions via the "controllinator". There has never been a better time to get into the world of "Little Big Planet".

#5 Eternal Sonata

eternal sonata

This game is a standout in that one of the playable characters in it was an actual earthly existing human being, even though the story is anything but earthly. As composer and pianist Frederic Chopin is lying on his deathbed, he dreams of a fairy-tale world where anyone near death has the ability to harness supernatural abilities. Co-op is available for up to three people, and there are twelve playable characters from which to choose. The combat system feels a bit off at first, but after one gets used to it, it's uniquely satisfying, and best of all, much of the music in the game are actual works of Chopin, which mesh well with the vivid colors and dreamlike backdrop in which the story unfolds.

#4 Far Cry 3

In addition to Far Cry 3's lengthy single-player campaign and competitive multiplayer offerings, the game comes with a co-op mode that has a lot in common with Left 4 Dead.

Players fill the roles of four characters who must venture through an island in search of the man who betrayed them and left them for dead, laying waste to mercenaries and pirates along the way. In addition to killing dudes on the regular, players can earn unlocks for their weapons and characters, which carry over to any progress they make in competitive multiplayer.
