Earlier this morning, Ubisoft announced a brand new partnership with New Regency Productions. Together, they will help each other create the big screen adaptation of Assassin's Creed.
Ubisoft Motion Pictures, a film production division that was formed earlier this year, mostly to help user in a Hollywood produced version of their biggest and hottest property at the moment, will work closely with the independent production company. Fox will distribute the final product.
Details are sparse at the moment, other than how development of the screenplay is being immediately and the project is being fast tracked as a whole, according to Ubi's press release on the matter. According to Jean-Julien Baronnet, the chief executive officer at Ubisoft Motion Pictures:
Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures… Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin’s Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise.
Michael Fassbender was announced as being attached to the project earlier this summer, and it is assumed that he will play the lead. Though no word yet if he'll play any of the previously established assassins from the previous or upcoming gamers, or if it'll be an entirely new character.
