Diablo 3 on Consoles "Up and Running," But Blizzard Still "Exploring Console Options"
Blizzard's Rob Pardo reveals that Diablo 3 on consoles is "up and running," but won't confirm the project still.
Fuel those "Diablo 3 on consoles" rumors, folks, as Blizzard has revealed that they have a version of their hit-RPG "up and running" on consoles; though they're still not ready to confirm anything yet.
In an interview with Polygon, Blizzard chief creative officer (CCO) Rob Pardo has revealed that they've got "builds" of Diablo 3 running on unspecified consoles, but that they're still not that far along to make it an official project.
We've got builds up and running on it. We're hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we're not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it's looking pretty cool.
In the same interview, Diablo 3 lead designer Jay Wilson reiterated that the studio is "still exploring console options" and to continue to "expand and add onto the game."
According to Wilson, "The whole team is essentially working on the next big Diablo thing," and "a lot of stuff will show up next year at some point."
So, is Diablo 3 an inevitability on consoles, then? It sure seems like it, no? Of course, Blizzard saying it has the game running on consoles could also mean they have it running using next-gen development kits. Odds are, we won't know for sure until Blizzard confirms it. But to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if their "next big Diablo thing" that will "show up next year" is an announcement of Diablo 3 for current-gen platforms. I mean, it's not like this is the first time they acknowledged its existence, right?
Would you want DIablo 3 ported to consoles? If so, how do you think the controls would work with a traditional controller? Or would you rather Diablo 3 be one of next-gen's launch games? Sound off and let us know how you want this to play out.
