7,000 Wii Us Stolen From Seattle Warehouse

December 18, 2012 by Matt Hawkins

It’s the like the plot to some Martin Scorsese or Guy Guy Ritchie movie. Maybe.

This coming December 25th, many boys and girls are hoping to find a brand new Wii U console under the Christmas tree. Unfortunately, not all of them will. How many kids are we talking about? Exactly 7,000. Because that's the exact number that was stolen from a warehouse in Seattle on December 15.

The 7,000 consoles were lifted from Sea-Tac airport's Seattle Air Cargo, according to ABC News. The heist took place during a storm, which might explain how two 53-foot long semis and a third, smaller box truck was able to roll into the warehouse with little incident.

The thieves then used a forklift to load 64 pallet's worth of Nintendo's latest console into the trucks, where they disappeared into the stormy night The estimated value is between 2.1 and 2.4 million dollars.

The theft went unnoticed till the next day, which was when Seattle Air Cargo employees noticed the missing inventory. Seattle police apparently have little to go on as it pertains to identity of the suspects.

Sgt. Cindy West states:

"I’ve been a cop for 28 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this… This has come straight out of the movies."

It's worth noting how many have been confused by the ABC Report, which mostly mentions just Nintendo Wiis, with the U at the end. But Kotaku has been able to confirm that it was the new system that was stolen and not the older one.

If it was indeed the latter, then this story would be a hundred times more humorous.

Anyhow, it's unfortunate how some parents, desperate to get their hands on the new console in order ensure a very happy Christmas for their kids, might soon have to consider buying stolen goods. Which obviously is a very bad idea.
