Bethesda has been focusing on the fictional history of the Elder Scrolls worlds in preparation for the eventual launch of The Elder Scrolls Online, in part by publishing three short stories on its website. Earlier this month, the team published the story of Jorunn the Skald-King, the leader of the Ebonheart Pact. Now, we have been introduced to Ayrenn, matriarch of the Aldmeri Dominion. The story tells us “how Ayrenn rose from a princess to the Queen of the Isles”.

The Aldmeri Dominion is one of the three alliances players must choose between in The Elder Scrolls Online, and includes High Elves, Wood Elves, and the Khajiit. Bethesda has also been conducting an “Ask Us Anything” on the Aldmeri Dominion. We know, for instance, that Ayrenn formed the Dominion because she saw it as the duty of the Elves to solve the world's problems, and was joined by the Wood Elves and Khajiit because they were facing problems of their own.

The Elder Scrolls Online, set centuries before Skyrim, looks like it'll be rich with history of the fictional world. But will sticking to the facts within the fiction be enough to satisfy fans who are worried the game will be too dissimilar to the likes of Morrowind and Oblivion?
