PS4 to Ship this Holiday Season and Controller "Share" Functionality Revealed - Rumor
Here are more rumors surrounding the PS4's release window and its new controller!
Following last night's news that Sony is set to unveil the PlayStation 4 at its "PlayStation Meeting" on February 20, more news are seemingly coming out of the woodwork.
According to Polygon's sources, the February 20 date is indeed the day when Sony wlill finally lift the lid on its next-gen console, with Sony allegedly planning a holiday 2013 release date for the console where it will compete with the Xbox 720.
These same sources, who are "familiar with the situation," tell Polygon that Microsoft, who is aware of Sony's launch timing, has plans of its own to announce the Xbox 720 this spring. And what's more, there are supposedly a variety of "form-factors" for Microsoft's next-gen console that are currently being focus-tested.
When asked for a comment, a Sony spokesperson declined to comment on anything specific only saying that the February 20 would be "focused on the future PlayStation business."
In more PS4 rumors, EDGE apparently has knowledge of the console's release window and controller. According to their sources, the PS4 will indeed be released later this year for the U.S. and Japan with an early 2014 release date for Europe.
Additionally, their sources state that the "PS4 will ship with a redesigned controller which is the same size as an existing DualShock but features a small touchpad in place of the existing Select, Start and PS buttons. The tech is based on Vita’s rear touchpad, and is similarly responsive in use."
Furthermore, the "Share button" which was also revealed in another report, "will, when pressed, launch a new feature that will allow screenshots and video to be distributed online. The PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action." The same sources state that there will be no processing penalty and users will be able to edit broadcasts via the internet.
As is with the other date regarding the PS4, these are all rumors until confirmed by Sony. But with different reports chiming in with the same data, I really wouldn't be surprised if this is the real deal.
If true, are you liking the PS4's "Share" button? How do you feel with Sony allegedly releasing the PS4 later this year?
