Randy Pitchford Spills New Brothers In Arms Plans

February 12, 2013 by Mathew Jones

Soon you will shoot a man, somewhat historically

With a choice in topics, today's a day when we'd all like to get a word out of Gearbox head Randy Pitchford. We don't have the luxury, unfortunately, but he was recently on hand at a recent IGN interview to talk about a variety of things relating to the studio's current interests and plans for the future.

Chief of importance is the reveal that Gearbox are working on a new Brothers In Arms.

The series, which chronicled the role of the US's 502nd Parachute Infantry of the 101st Airborne during World War 2, lasted for three main games and a handful of offshoots on mobile platforms but has mostly laid dormant for a significant period of time.

No publisher has been confirmed for this return, though the studio are in active attempt to hunt one down. Ubisoft have stated that they aren't interested in publishing it, yet the teams retain a healthy relationship.

Pitchford's quick to confirm that the Brothers In Arms game they're working on now has no connection to "Furious 4" which was initially announced at E3 with a trailer, but has since become it's own IP. He tells us:

"Basically, where the momentum was going, design was iterating around gameplay loops and experiential things that were really fun. But as that process was committed to, it began to move further and further away from what Brothers in Arms should be…

…Our die-hard Brothers in Arms fans, our guys that love Brothers in Arms for what it is, they were like ‘what the f**k is that? That is not what I want. I hate that, because that means I’m not gonna get what I want."

This Brothers In Arms is said to recapture the authenticity the series excelled at providing before. There's no word of a release window.
