Mass Effect 3 Citadel DLC Proven to be Fake

February 17, 2013 by Jacob Saylor

A suspicious DLC description named Citadel has been shot down by BioWare employee Chris Priestly.

A thread on Reddit recently went up concerning what is called the latest downloadable content for Mass Effect 3. Going by the name of Citadel, the suspicious content has garnered a large amount of attention from various forum.

The DLC in question would offer a “new Single Player mission for Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect Universe,” as well as several new locations, a new hub in the citadel known as the “Silver Sun Strip,” brand new weapons and finally – new enemies to combat.

The release date for this content is slated for early March. Being that we are so close to the game’s release, this already puts another nail in the veritable coffin that is Citadel. Generally, games have a concrete release date by this time.

What really did these rumors in came yesterday from Bioware staff member Chris Priestly, who shut them down without a second glance on the developer’s forums: “Fake. It's a combination of the name seen in the released screen and incorrect guesswork.”

The thread has since been locked, but is still available for viewing.

A trend of fakes has cropped up over the internet in recent weeks. One of the more notable examples is the fake Grand Theft Auto V trailer, which was really just a souped-up modification to an earlier title in the franchise, San Andreas.

As excited as we were to hear about a brand new Mass Effect adventure, we’ll have to wait until the next iteration of DLC, which is thought by many to be coming in the form of Reckoning. Though Reckoning is only a working name at this time, details for the DLC are due sometime late next week, and we’re expecting to hear more about cooperative play and new weapons.
