The Sights And Sounds Of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’s Upcoming DLC

March 11, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

Among other things, you get a sword that has the spirt of Solid Snake contained within.

First, a head's up: the aforementioned VR Missions that are an exclusive to all PlayStation 3 owners of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is scheduled to arrive tomorrow on the PlayStation Network.

But, as also previously reported, that's not the only DLC that MGR fans can look forward to. And, to further wet everyone's appetites, Platinum Games has produced the following trailer:

The first half covers the aforementioned VR Missions. There's 30 in total and appears to offer an incredible degree of variety. Not only do you get to put Raiden through his paces once again, but you also get to control the Dwarf Gekko in some missions.

Highlights on that end include a side-scrolling segment, and another that looks reminiscent of the arcade classic Frogger. Which might be no coincidence. After all, that was one of Konami's very first hits from the golden age of video games.

The later part highlights something that we haven't covered as of yet, called simply Soul Snake Wooden Sword. As the name implies, Raiden gets to carry out missions using a wooden sword, one that contains the spirit of his best friend, Solid Snake.

It's not entirely clear what unique properties the wooden sword will bring to the table. Since it's hard to imagine how much damage a piece of wood can dish out, at least compared to Raiden's more modern equipment.

Perhaps the whole point is all the witty commentary that Snake provides, in the form of a weapon that does little damage? At least it's also clear that you get to do some sneaking around, in the same manner that Snake made famous. Which will hopefully satiate those fans who are still upset that Rising is not a traditional Metal Gear experience.

No word yet on when the latter DLC will hit America. Hopefully when it does, David Hayter will be along for the ride.
