One of the biggest elements of Dark Souls—beyond its survival horror-esque foray into deep and dangerous dungeons—is its player-vs-player combat, which sees other players invading your realm to make life hell for you. Granted, the invasion system also allows players to cooperate with one another, but it's mostly there for the ganking.
