See The Dark Souls 2 World Through The Eyes Of The Invader

October 7, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

This new trailer from the beta is a visual guide to the Invader/Invaded game experience

A new fan video has revealed what it will be like to be one of the Invaders from Dark Souls 2. You should see clearly the video is from Japanese gameplay, so some or many of these elements may be changed in the final form.

The video starts with a player by a bonfire, setting their stats around, when he/she suddenly sees the ghost of an invader pass by them. In the course of this, the trailer spoils certain universal game elements, such as the Level Up menu, dagger, block, and parry animations, the new menu system, MP Grass, gestures (which are customizable), and descriptions.

We get to looking at the Invaded around 2 minutes and 40 seconds in. They do see the Invaders as corporeal forms, like moving shadows illuminated with eerie red or white lights. When an Invader succeeds, the succeeding animation shows the two playable characters side by side, as the ghost of the Invaded rapidly seeps out and gives way to the Invaded.

As the Invader, you can easily move around as much as you would if you were a regular player, but you can’t kill other players. You also can’t pull levers. If it’s any consolation, you can flask. As mentioned before, you can’t roll your way out of attacks easily, even in this mode, and attacks don’t go to walls, at least, most of the time. You can use your catalyst to great advantage, as well as run off even when locked on.

When you kill an opponent and get their liquid humanity, you can do a humanity restore (ironic name, isn’t it?). The animation shows you plunging it deep into your heart, forcing you to kneel to the ground.

As an Invader, you can use bonfires, either to explore around, or maybe aggravate your host further. The video ends with the playing Invader finding a new area, and then luring the host to be killed by other Invaders. Vereor Nox!
