Some artists are concerned with portraying realistic emotion through a certain character’s facial expressions. Others are hoping to simply produce a look that fits perfectly into the established setting. The visual team behind Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 has two main priorities when designing the game’s heroine: make Lightning more beautiful, and make her cooler than ever before.
At least, that’s according to production supervisor Hiroshi Kamohara who spoke in a recent development video about the character’s design.
“Our highest priority has been to make Lightning more beautiful and cooler than ever before,” he said.
Art director Isamu Kamikokuryo has been working hard on the game’s many outfits, promising fans designs that they’ve never seen before.
“We’ve created types of outfits that she’s never worn before,” he explained. “Get ready to see some new sides to her.”
