H1Z1 News Blowout: Lore, Crafting, Zombies, Weather & More

May 9, 2014 by Stephen Daly

You can train a zombie pet in H1Z1.

Sony Online Entertainment's open world zombie game H1Z1 was demonstrated in two recent Geekdomo Twitch streams and a host of new information about the game has been relayed through Reddit.

Lore

  • The source of the zombie outbreak will be an infection.
  • It is possible for players to become infected.
  • H1Z1's lore may be crafted by the community after launch.
  • Players might be able to train infected animals and pets.
  • There may be electricity generated by a dam in the game but this won't feature in Early Access.

Crafting

  • Foundations of the system will be in Early Access.
  • It's possible to gather resources from buildings that another person has built and left.
  • Building a fortress/house means more players and zombies will be attracted to it.
  • Campfires and torches act as a light source, presumably drawing further attention.
  • You can add light sources to buildings or other objects.
  • Player can create clothes that provide less heat.
  • After death, another gamer can claim/raid your house.

Zombies

  • You can take on one zombie by yourself but you'll need help to tackle larger groups.
  • Zombies can become stronger as a result of eating animals and people.
  • Zombies can't walk through walls like in Day-Z.
  • The infected are attracted to heat.

Weather

  • There will be no natural disasters in Early Access.
  • Rain will effect buildings and the environment (Ex: If there is rain, this building will change texture).
  • Players can become ill due to the weather.

UI

  • The HUD will have hidden health/energy/hydration indicators that will pulse when affected and then fade away.
  • When you group up with friendly players it's possible to see name plates.

Misc

  • No digging holes.
  • Traps in game currently.
  • You can lock people in rooms.
  • VOIP – will have proximity chat.
  • The game might introduce PvE Servers if players vote for the server type.
  • Nothing that can be bought will effect gameplay. For example, purchased cosmetic clothes will give you an advantage in game).
