Minecraft Bountiful Update Now Live

September 2, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

There are new blocks, villagers, items, and more.

It has been confirmed that Minecraft 1.8 AKA the Bountiful Update, is now live. PC users can check their clients and download the update now. Fans are already finding and sharing the most useful new features.

This .gif demonstrates custom crafting in a larger scale. That sword was built using materials laid out in a 3 x 9 grid, meaning 27 items were used all at once.

There is a new mob, the Endermites. These are made of Ender particles. They are purple and look similar to silverfish.

The Guardian is a one eyed fish that can survive on land, and will spawn in random environments. They have many common and rare drops. It has a laser beam attack.

The Elder Guardian is a bigger fishlike creature that can give you mining fatigue. It has similar drops to the regular Guardian.

The Guaridans and Elder Guardians are found in ocean monuments. Only three Elder Guardians appear in a single monument. Rewards in this area include gold and wet sponge, a new item.

Rabbits are finally in the game. Most rabbits are friendly, unless you run across a killer bunny. Killer bunnies will chase you and cause large damage. Another unique rabbit, toast, was made to look like a real, now deceased, pet rabbit of a Mojang dev.

These are the new blocks:

·         Diorite

·         Polished Diorite

·         Andesite

·         Polished Andesite

·         Granite

·         Polished Granite

·         Coarse Dirt

·         Red Sandstone

·         Chiseled Red Sandstone

·         Smooth Red Sandstone

·         Red Sandstone Stairs

·         Red Sandstone Slab

·         Prismarine

·         Prismarine Bricks

·         Dark Prismarine

·         Sea Lantern

·         Spruce

·         Birch

·         Jungle

·         Dark Oak

·         Acacia

·         Iron Trapdoors

·         Slime Blocks

You can now add buttons on any side of the block

Slime Blocks are made from nine pieces of slime. Core Minecraft players know the potential of this is limitless.  For example, you can make a steep diving board, and either you or a mob creature can drop off of it and be safe as long as there’s a slime block at the bottom.

These are the new Villagers:

·         Fletcher

·         Farmer

·         Fisherman

·         Librarian

·         Cleric

·         Toolsmith

·         Armorer

·         Weapon Smith

·         Butcher

·         Leather Worker

Armor Stands allow you to display and store your armor in your homes.

Banners can be oriented in any direction. They  can be made of several designs by manipulating colors, and cleaned using water.

You can change the colors beacons display by using a different color of glass. You can also combine different glass blocks to create variations between these colors.

Sheep now drop raw mutton, which can be cooked into cooked mutton. Rabbits drop raw rabbit, which become cooked rabbit. Cooked rabbit can be combined with other items to make rabbit stew, currently the best food in the game.

One new enchantment, the Depth Strider, can be applied to helmets, giving you a speed boost in the water.

Lapis Lazuli allows you to preview what minimum enchantments are available, mitigating the randomness.

The Potion of Leaping doubles the height you can jump, for a limited duration. Splash Potions of Leaping increase its height and duration.

You can see a roundup of these features below.
