Assassin’s Creed Unity: New Facts About the Animus, Disguises, Arno Dorian, and More

September 8, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Here are some new details about Assassin’s Creed Unity.

With the impending release of the next chapter in the Assassin’s Creed saga, Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve decided to compile a series of facts about the game based on recent previews of the title.

According to previews, the voices in the game’s cinematics and a good chunk of the voices you hear during gameplay will be in English and not in French because the Animus, the device in which the player is immersed within to relive the life of the main character Arno, translates the elements of interest in the player’s language. The voices of the crowd will be in French, however.

Creative director Alex Amancio revealed that there will not be any “flashback memories” as in Revelations, and that we will play as Arno throughout the entirety of the game without slipping into anyone else’s body.

Arno, the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Unity, is said to be 21 years of age when the game begins. He is capable of scaling tall buildings despite his youth and inexperience. Belonging to a bloodline of Assassins is not the reason why Arno becomes an Assassin. Instead, he chooses to become one later in life due to reasons connected to the game’s story. His eagle sense ability is different from what we’re used to seeing as a result of his lack of mentorship.

The typical white room in which Assassins speak to their targets during the kill has also been changed. The player will now see flashes and pictures of the events that surround the target’s assassination as a matter of context.

To jump into co-op mode, players will have to play about an hour’s worth of gameplay. The reason for the delay is to provide players to feel comfortable with the game’s controls and set-up before being introduced to co-op mode.

The Animus Virtual Training Program, in which players previously practiced and honed their skills, will not be making a return in Assassin’s Creed Unity. Instead, players will have to test and hone their skills in an area inside the world.

As a master of disguise, Arno will be able to disguise himself as any character from the crowd and hide within a stack of hay to alter his appearance. This disguise remains in place until the player performs a high-profile action.

Assassin’s Creed: Rogue and Assassin’s Creed Unity can be played in any order, but there is a mystery in Rogue that will only be revealed in Unity. Should the player play Unity first, there will be a mystery at the beginning of the game that’s answered in Rogue.

The present day universe will remain a part of Assassin’s Creed Unity, but “not in the way we know” compared to previous games. The previous game, Black Flag was considered to be a video game by Abstergo Entertainment, however Unity will be a DNA-resource simulation and not a game within the lore of the AC universe. Abstergo has created an upgraded Animus called Helix, which allows its customers to experience life through the eyes of Arno Dorian.

Assassin’s Creed Unity is out on November 11, 2014 for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
