Mojang really dropped the ball. It's not like Minecraft wasn't already making money hand over foot, but a proper Wii U port would have undoubtedly been a success. With the news of the company's aquisition by Microsoft, other companies have stepped forward to fill the void. We recently learned about U Craft — an indie outfit called Nexis Games has since revealed itself to be the developer and is targeting a Holiday 2014 launch. Now, a two-man group called Finger Gun Games has announced its own clone: Stone Shire.
In addition to taking a page out of Minecraft, Finger Gun is also looking to Dwarf Fortress and Dungeons & Dragons for inspiration. You'll be able choose from a number of fantasy races, including dwarves, elves, and hobbits, each with their own special abilities. As you mine and build, you'll also have to contend with enemies like goblins or drows. You'll be able to play with others either locally or online, and pictures you take in-game can be shared over Miiverse.
There's no release window right now, but Finger Gun is considering a 3DS version once the Wii U build is complete. You can follow development of Stone Shire over on the group's Facebook page.
