Kakexun, Kenji Eno’s Final Project, Now Up On IndieGogo

November 18, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The iconoclast’s final vision is a typically obtuse game concept involving cosmology, music, and solving math equations.

Kenji Eno’s final project, KAKEXUN, has finally appeared on Indiegogo, giving Western fans an opportunity to help realize Eno’s final vision.

Eno passed away last year at only 42, right when he was at the design phase of his game. His friends and fellow developers, forming WARP2, rallied to ensure his final game would be finished, and started with a previous crowdfund in Japan-based MotionGallery. Now, Eno’s friends hope to raise $ 100,000 on Indiegogo before the year ends.

Much like Eno’s other work, KAKEXUN is a lofty vision that’s a little hard to explain. It is conceived as an online game, where you solve puzzles and math equations in the service of exploring a sprawling cosmology.

There will be visits to other dimensions, cataclysms, encounters with strange creatures, and even enemy battles, but for now, WARP2 has not shared the details on how this all comes together. WARP2 did share a look at the game’s UI, The Cloud of Numbers. Numbers appear from an unknown space dimension, and via rhythms in the game’s soundtrack, you are given equations to share. Conceptually, your left brain is supposed to be engaged by the puzzle solving, and the right brain, by the music. You can watch a video outlining the UI concept below.

KAKEXUN may seem to be a hard sell, but if you have played any of Eno’s other works, such as D’s Diner, Enemy Zero, You, Me, And The Cubes, or Newtonica, you know this game is well worth your time, and money, and $ 30, the lowest tier for the copy on PC, is a bargain for it. You can help fund KAKEXUN below.
