There are plenty of accessible opportunities for would-be game developers to flex their creative muscles on dedicated game hardware rather than on PCs. One such method is Petit Computer, a DSiWare tool that allows you to create your own games using the BASIC programming language. Using this, a programmer operating under the Lazer Light Studios moniker has decided to use his talents towards recreating the classic Mega Man 2.
After more than two years, his little side project has been completed, and you may now obtain the necessary files from here. Rather than having to download anything, you'll instead have to scan 243 separate QR codes with your portable's camera. Sounds like a lot of work for a remake of a game that already exists on the 3DS Virtual Console, but as a curiosity, it's worth checking out — if you have Petit Computer, of course.
This version of Petit Computer was released for DSi, so while it will work on 3DS, gamers still rocking Nintendo's last-generation handheld won't be left in the dark. However, there is an improved version, titled SmileBASIC, coming to 3DS next year. It'll give users the opportunity to make games of at least SNES quality, so keep an eye out for that.
