Mega Man X Fan-Modded to Add CD-Quality Music

January 2, 2015 by Tony Ponce

Patch can be used on SNES hardware using the sd2snes flash cart.

Do you remember that A Link to the Past patch I wrote about two months ago? Using the fan-created MSU1 expansion chip, the soundtrack to the SNES classic was replaced entirely with an arranged one created by the Zelda music group ZREO. The best part is, if you own an sd2snes flash cart, you can apply and run this patch on actual SNES hardware!

The modding team of Michaël Larouche and TheRetromancer decided that a certain, relatively obscure game called MEGA MAN X deserved a musical touch-up as well. The result is this patch that gives X the head-banging, guitar-shredding tunes we always heard in our heads. There are no added cutscenes like in the ALttP patch, but best to keep things simple, right?

Head over to Romhacking.net to grab the patch and give it a spin. If you lack the know-how to get this puppy up and running, just check out the sample of the modded game in action above.
