One of the hot new mobile brands in the past couple of years has been Puzzle & Dragons, a match-three puzzle game that incorporates monster hunting and catching. Last year, developer GungHo Online Entertainment took a chance at the console space with Puzzle & Dragons Z, a Japan-exclusive 3DS title that expanded upon the RPG elements from the original. This turned out to be a brilliant move, as P&DZ went on to sell more than 1.5 million copies by July 2014.
Now GungHo is teaming up with Nintendo for Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, which will leverage Nintendo's affable mascot in order to completely break the bank. Mario Edition will play similarly to P&DZ, except with a Mario characters and a very New Super Mario Bros.-esque overworld, obviously.
The new game is set for release on 3DS in Japan on April 29. So far, there is no word on whether this or P&DZ will make it to the West. I don't see why they wouldn't, considering the original mobile game did quite well over here — not as mind-blowingly well as the Japanese release, but still pretty solid.
