Spotify Heading to PS3 and PS4 as Sony Ends Music Unlimited

January 28, 2015 by Stephen Daly

PlayStation Music will roll out this spring in 41 countries.

Sony has announced a partnership with Spotify which will see the digital music service rolled out to PlayStation Network on PS3 and PS4 in 41 markets around the world this spring. The Spotify deal will see 'PlayStation Music' replace Sony's own Music Unlimited feature.

Announcing the news on the PlayStation Blog, Sony's Eric Lempel wrote:

"We know how important music is to our community of gamers, and this partnership combines the best in music with the best in gaming. PlayStation Network users will enjoy the convenience of linking your accounts to Spotify, making it easy to sign-up with your existing ID and subscribe to Spotify’s Premium service.

"You can also use Spotify while playing games on PS4, enabling you to soundtrack your gaming sessions with your favorite songs in the background."

Ahead of the launch of PlayStation Music, Music Unlimited will cease operations "in all 19 countries on 29th March 2015. Nearly all of these countries will be among the 41 markets where PlayStation Music featuring Spotify will be available at launch."

You can sign up for updates about PlayStation Music from Spotify's website. Earlier today, Sony announced that apps including Near and YouTube will be removed from PlayStation Vita in the March update.
