Final Fantasy XV Details And Changes: Eidolons, Traveling Across Continents, And More

August 30, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Square Enix may have confirmed Cindy’s father, Cid.

Square Enix gave themselves a deadline of March 2016 to reveal the release date of Final Fantasy XV. Today, we run down the other things they revealed.

The Eidolons Noctis will encounter and eventually summon are key in Final Fantasy XV’s cosmology. They were involved in the creation of the world and distinct from each other. Eidolons are gendered and each have their own language.

The first female Eidolon was revealed as well. Called Leviathan, she is a serpent that surrounds Altissia. Leviathan is intelligent and can disguise herself and move like a liquid. Leviathan was actually one of the first designed Eidolons.

Speaking of cosmology, Final Fantasy XV no longer has any connection to the Fabula Nova Crystallis. While it may share some DNA, it is now considered a separate canon.

Of course, Eidolons are non antagonistic monsters, and there will be more monsters like this in the world. Some monsters will yield you meat for cooking, but that may eventually prove true of all the monsters.

Moogles, Tonberries, and Cactuar haven’t appeared in previes thus far, and the reason is obvious. Square Enix wants Final Fantasy XV to be realistic, but these three undermine that. The team is still figuring out how they will fit in with Final Fantasy XV’s vision

The woman in the Final Fantasy XV logo may no longer be Etro, the goddess of death. She does remain the greatest goddess in its world, and Amaono’s original sketch inspired her creation.

These were some of the  newly announced locations:

·         Altissia, a set of islands that border near a waterfall.

·         Lestallum, a city reminiscent of Cuba, and containing an extraterrestrial crater.

·         Hammerhead, a mechanics station, where you will take your broken car, the Regalia.

·         Finally, there is Caem, a port city where Noctis can get boats.

With Stella gone, Noctis’ and Lana’s relationship have been changed from the typical love story. Lana is a strong character internally who influences Noctis as much as Noctis influences Lana.

You can build Noctis’ relationship with the other characters outside of the main narrative. You will want to find things they can do together. The more close knit they are, the more powerful their attacks are.

There will be a mechanic in Hammerhead who isn’t Cindy. This may yet be Cindy’s father, who everyone assumes is that world’s Cid.

Noctis will be able to pick up firearms and shields. Funnily enough, Square can’t reveal the exact number of weapons since it’s relevant to the plot as well.

Regalia will be a great part of the game. It serves as a physical metaphor for the love Noctis’ father had for him.

While riding the Regalia, you can change the POV, and you can also customize it and have it serviced. Gas is a finite resource, and anytime you run out, Noctis and his friends will have to go out and push.

The Regalia will come with you when you go to other continents, a major change in the game’s development. The Regalia will be carried across the water via ship.

Final Fantasy XV will be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
