Destiny: The Taken King Breaks Day-One Records as Most Downloaded Game in History

September 17, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

The release of The Taken King has set a new benchmark both for the series and for digitally released video games.

Activision has revealed that its newly released title Destiny: The Taken King is the most successful launch in PlayStation history.

Destiny: The Taken King has broken the record for the most downloaded day-one game in the console's history and set a new day-one franchise benchmark for both total players and peak online concurrency. The previous title to hold the record was none other than the original release of Destiny, which launched last September.

Destiny set records as the biggest new video game franchise launch in history.

If you played Destiny back in the day and feel like picking up The Taken King, be sure to check out our guide on getting back into the game. It'll also be helpful if you stopped playing at any time during one of its two previous expansions, or just need a primer to get up to speed with the updates that The Taken King brings to the game.
