Hitman Absolution Getting “Very Interesting” Online Features

October 4, 2011 by Josh Harmon

IO Interactive is remaining tight-lipped, but Agent 47 might be going online for the first time in the franchise’s history.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Hitman: Absolution developer IO Interactive has revealed that Agent 47's next adventure will be bringing an online component to the table.

"First of all, I want to say we do have something very, very interesting coming up in Hitman: Absolution on the online side," lead producer Hakan Abrak stated. "We're not ready to talk about it right now. Hitman is an assassin who works alone, but you never know in what form or in what way we could give you an online experience. It's unfortunately not something I can talk about right now, but I can say, in the story part, Agent 47 definitely works alone."

Though none of the series' four prior entries have featured multiplayer, Abrak certainly seems to be implying that Absolution will do something to buck this trend. Given the emphasis he places on 47 "working alone," it's possible we'll be seeing a co-op campaign or competitive component that's seperate from the main storyline.

We're bound to know more as Hitman: Absolution ramps up for its 2012 release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
