Bright Light Studios Closes

You can write about games for decades, but reporting on a studio closure never gets any easier. EA has closed Guildford’s Harry Potter studio, Bright Light.

The closure of the studio, which began as EA UK in 1995 and focused on Harry Potter titles, has resulted in job losses, with others joining studios Jagex and Supermassive Games.

While EA has declined to discuss the reason for the studio’s closure (one can wonder if the end of the Harry Potter movie franchise had anything to do with it,) Develop says that things were being put into motion starting in November.

Bright Light worked on mainly portable titles, including those of the Harry Potter franchise and the Pokemon-like Zubo. The only confirmed departure from the studio so far is Bright Light’s former general manager, Harvey Elliot, who is no longer working for EA at all and is believed to be on an industry hiatus.
