India Makes an Assassin’s Creed Movie. It’s Awesome.

March 27, 2012

This is the closest thing you’re going to get to seeing an Assassin’s Creed movie.

Indian Assassin's Creed

Tamil cinema in India (as opposed to Bollywood) has produced an action movie that's more tribute than spoof of Assassin's Creed.

Titled Velayudham, the movie follows the travails of an everyday character who becomes a vigilante—much like Altaïr, Ezio, and Connor in the upcoming Assassin's Creed III game—who seeks to right wrongs and kill a bunch of bad guys while he's at it.

The movie almost contains every aspect of the Assassin's Creed games, with parkour scenes, acrobatics, and violence with the hidden blade. There's even the signature eagle cry at various points in the film.

The character foils a Jihadist cell planning to carry out terror attacks in India, leaving them alive to be busted—and questioned—by the police, and slaughters a group of corrupt bankers based off the goons who work at Goldman Sachs with a pair of hidden blades. Later, he fights more terrorists on a speeding train, stabbing holes in them and throwing off the less fortunate ones onto the tracks.

Fans of Assassin's Creed will note that the fight scenes are expertly choreographed and are at many times reminiscent of the executions performed by Ezio in the games. If an Assassin's Creed game ever took place in the modern day, I'd imagine it wouldn't look too far off from this.

You can watch all the action scenes from the movie below.

Thanks Mitu Khandaker, for correctly informing me that the movie is from Tamil cinema, and not Bollywood.
