DmC Reboot's Dante: Capcom Explains the New Look and Demeanor
Capcom knows that fans have concerns with the new look Dante. They even explain why they went that route.
One of the main complaints people had when Capcom unveiled its Devil May Cry reboot was Dante's new look. Gone are the campy, over-the-top cheesefesft of the Dante of old. He's now replaced by a younger, middle-finger saluting, "punk" who smokes and tries his darnest to make you hate him.
Speaking to VG247, Capcom producer Alex Jones states that he understands the fans' concerns.
Being angry about it – yeah I get that – but we always said, ‘when you see the game and you play it, trust me, you’re going to understand that we were doing the right thing’. Now that’s happening, so yeah it’s vindication, but it’s not like smugly sitting back and going ‘ha ha’.
While they undestand all the hate, what's with the new Dante's brash, flippin' the bird behaviour? Why the massive change there?
One of the things about making a western game, we wanted to make the tone a little less campy, and a little more darker. It’s still got a sense of humour, but it’s just more appropriate in the world Dante is now in, where’s it’s less acceptable to make corny jokes and better to make darker ones.
He’s still irreverent, he’s still – at the end of the day – the guy who will kick your ass and drop a cool one liner afterwards
Okay, I get it now but can Dante do all that and not look like an enormous douche? He might be a bad-ass, but I doubt a lot of people would feel empathy with a bad-ass that's one clothing away from being in Jersey Shore.
Do you like the new Dante or should Capcom bring the old one back?
