Wii U to Be the First Console to Launch with an “Adults Only” Rated Game

October 4, 2012 by Alex Co

Nintendo’s Wii U will be the first console in history to launch with a CERO Z rated game.

Nintendo consoles has always had this reputation among core gamers that it's made for "kids." This started way back when Nintendo refused to show any blood and proper fatalities in the SNES version of Mortal Kombat.

Now, the company's all grown up — or at least they seem to be — as the Wii U will be the first console in history to launch with a CERO Z game.

If you're unfamiliar with the term, it's Japan's version of the ESRB's "Adults Only" rating for games. Titles that fall under this rating are held behind counters and retailers will need to check IDs before selling the game. It was introduced way back in 2006, but major game publishers wary of the rating's stigma often toned down whatever content necessitated it to fall under the CERO D (17+) rating.

So, which game is making console Nintendo history? It's not a Dead or Alive game or anything that involves tentacle porn; instead, it's none other than Team Ninja's Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. I assume it's mostly for the gore, unless there's a code to make Ayane or Ryu fight through the entire game naked or something. Hey, I'm not judging if you want to play the entire game that way, you classy guy.

Remember this, the next time someone calls a Nintendo console is for kids, just show 'em this link or buy a copy of NInja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge in Japan and shove it onto their face.

Will this attract more "mature" gamers to the Wii U or should the game not even get its CERO Z rating?
