Nintendo's Iwata Wants to Improve WiiWare
By Jacob Saylor

Nintendo's online service has been a bit lackluster, to say the least. Normally, it would suit the needs of everyone just fine - but for the average gamer in today's gaming space, that is not so. A strong Playstation Network coming from Sony and an even stronger Xbox LIVE from Microsoft leaves Nintendo in an odd predicament.

Well, it looks like Nintendo wants to start upping their stake in the online realm. Nintendo's Satoru Iwata commented today on their plans.

"Starting from [New Super... More »

No Wii-U Version for Crysis 3
By Andrew Kent
no-wii-u-version-for-crysis-3

In an interview with Destructoid, Crytek said that there is "not a fat chance" of a Wii-U version for Crysis 3. To this Destructoid's own Hamza Aziz commented that he couldn't understand how first person shooters could be fun on "that hulking controller".

It's really a shame that a lot of AAA titles don't get Nintendo console versions. It's also unfortunate that a lot of great Nintendo titles like the Legend of Zelda franchise aren't on the PS3 or XBOX 360. It's understandable though since everyone wants to make money and Nintendo... More »

By Jacob Saylor
rumor-call-of-duty-black-ops-2-leak-tons-of-information

Yesterday, it was announced that gamers from across the world will be enjoying yet another Call of Duty. While we were not informed as to what the next entry will be, it is almost positively Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. It has been confirmed that the game will be coming from Treyarch, and since the latest entry into Activision’s giant Call of Duty franchise was an Infinity Ward project, this idea is only reinforced.

Leaked on the PSPKing forums earlier from an anonymous source came this slew of information... More »

Top 25 Best Open World Games of all Time

Best Open World Games

What is an "open world" game? Wikipedia defines it as a type of videogame level design where the player can freely roam through the world and is given considerable freedom to interact with objectives and the like.

I decided against including the likes of Deus Ex and the Thief series, which despite the freedom they offer to the player, are strictly linear titles—at least in terms of exploration.

Rather, the showcase you see before you is a collection of... More »

Nintendo Acquires Patent Filed for Over Nine Years Ago
By Jacob Saylor
nintendo-acquires-patent-filed-for-over-nine-years-ago

If Nintendo did not have enough intellectual property power to begin with, this latest addition to their growing arsenal will surely give them an edge over competitors in the years to come.

The company filed for a patent over nine years ago, which brings forth a technology that seamlessly integrates displays into consoles. While many claim this is still a dream in regards to the industry’s current technological state, we may not be so far away. Do not forget so quickly what industry we are talking... More »

NES Controller Coffee Table is Also a Giant, Working Controller
By Elizabeth DeLoria

If you ever find yourself with $3,500 USD laying around that you can’t figure out how to get rid of, don’t go out and waste it on 3,500 $1 tacos. Instead, why not spend it on what is possibly the best coffee table ever?

While Charles Lushear’s Nintendo Controller Coffee Table is expensive and can easily be mistaken as just another ‘quirky’ piece of furniture, remember that appearances can be deceiving. This coffee table is actually a working controller.

Made from maple,... More »

Ninendo's Germany division has announced they won't be attending this years GamesCom convention, reports VG247 (via Joystiq). The company seems to have their own promotional schemes in the works, as indicated by the statement they released:

"Whilst Gamescom is a fantastic show, we have taken the decision not to attend this year's event. Instead we are planning a number of sampling events later this year inline with the European Marketing-, PR- and Event-activities in which our fans will have the... More »

It appears Nintendo Korea has announced (via Gematsu) that the company's next Nintendo Direct conference will be held on this comning Saturday at 8pm Korean time (4am PST, 7am EST, 12am BST).

Nintendo normally uses these events to detail new hardware features and discuss upcoming games. This will likely be the last direct conference before the company's big E3 press conference which of course has a big Wii U re-unveil scheduled.

As a longtime Wii U skeptic, any new info is welcome. (I wan them to... More »

The Amazing Spider-Man: The Game Impressions
By Kyle Wattenmaker
the-amazing-spider-man-the-game-impressions

The preview session of The Amazing Spider-Man didn't dispel all of my fears about the game, but it did away with most of them. The good news is that The Amazing Spider-Man will not be a throw-away, crappy, movie tie-in game. You may question the necessity of all of those adjectives, but I ask you not to question my contempt of movie games. Beenox Studios is bringing their third Spider-Man game out in as many years. The Amazing Spider-Man was developed by Beenox's A-team, that is, the one responsible for the critically... More »

Ten Minutes of Epic Mickey 2 Footage Surfaces on the Wii
By Ian Miles Cheong

Nintendo World Report has released ten minutes of gameplay footage of Warren Spector and Junction Point's upcoming sequel to their Mickey Mouse-themed game Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.

The footage shows off ten minutes of the game in action on the Nintendo Wii, so the graphics are a little rough compared to what we've seen of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. That said, the gameplay looks far superior to the first Epic Mickey, with a good camera system and a thousand other smaller improvements to the game.... More »

Violent Video Games

Ever since developers figured out that a few red pixels could stand in for gushing blood, video games have been catching flak for being too violent. Whether digital decapitations and virtual eviscerations are corrupting our children is up for debate, but there's no question that there are some spectacularly gory games out there.

We've compiled a list of the ten worst offenders in recent memory. In the interest of keeping things as fresh as possible, we've only included... More »

Def Jam Rapstar creators sued for Millions
By Mat Growcott
def-jam-rapstar-creators-sued-for-millions

Remember Def Jam Rapstar? No? You'd be forgiven for it slipping right under your radar, although it had quite a showing at Eurogamer in 2010. It was the rap world's reaction to Sing Star and, if you still have a GAME or Gamestation nearby, you can pick up a copy for below a fiver.

So despite selling modestly, the developers are now going to be wrapped up in a legal battle with music-publishing giant EMI, who claim that 54 tracks in the game infringe on their rights. This isn't as open and shut as it seems,... More »
