Tomb Raider Game Gets a Prequel Comic

February 1, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

Don’t worry, it’s written by Rhianna Pratchett

Square Enix has announced that Crystal Dynamics has teamed up with Dark Horse Comics to create a new comic featuring Lara Croft, the first issue of which will be released as a companion to the upcoming game. The comic is simply called Tomb Raider, and is written by Rhianna Pratchett, the lead writer on the game itself.

The first issue – Tomb Raider: The Beginning – explains how the crew on the Endurance (the ship featured in the game) came to be there. Apparently, a showbiz archeologist called Dr. James Whitman enlists the help of Captain Conrad Roth and his “unique and eccentric crew” to help him find the lost Japanese kingdom of Yamatai, so that it can feature on his TV show Whitman's World.

Those who want to get this first issue early can nab a copy if they pre-order with Best Buy. If you – like me – hate retailer-specific pre-order bonuses, then I'm sure you'll be able to pick up the six-part, 48-page hardcover comic at a later date. But if you're desperate to read it as soon as possible, head over to the Tomb Raider website to put a preorder down. Tomb Raider is due to launch on the 5th March.
