Wii U Version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Accidentally Discovered?

July 31, 2014 by Tony Ponce

Nintendo’s console is named within the ource code of the Advanced Warfare website.

Both previous and current generation platforms are scheduled to receive Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but missing from the list of recipients is Wii U. Has Activision finally given up on serving the beleaguered Nintendo machine? Maybe not! After a bit of searching through the source code of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's website, mention of the Wii U was discovered:

Since this revelation, all instances of "Wii U" have been removed, but the cat is already out of the bag.

This wouldn't be the first time Activision announced the Nintendo version of Call of Duty later than the others. This pattern has been going on ever since the franchise exploded following Modern Warfare — announce the lead platforms, casually discuss a Wii port at a future date, then provide little to no media or promotion whatsover. The situation didn't change with the move to HD on Wii U, as both Black Ops II and Ghosts were treated similiarly. You could say that Activision behaves this way because it has no confidence in the Nintendo ecosystem's ability to move Call of Duty, but if that's true, why even port the games at all?

In any case, when Activision does officially announce the Wii U version of Advanced Warfare, don't expect the Wii U to receive the Atlas packs like the others. The PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC are still on track to get the game on November 4.
