Panopticon Revealed as PS Vita Exclusive Freedom Wars

May 21, 2013 by Stephen Daly

A new trailer revealed Vita exclusivity.

Panopticon, revealed by Sony Japan Studios last week, has been formally titled in the West as Freedom Wars and the title will be available exclusively on PlayStation Vita in 2014 a new trailer has revealed.

The trailer states that the Earth's population is seven billion while 4.2 million cameras exist in the city of London – where the game is partially set. In the year PT Era 102013 – presumably the far future, there are 12.98 billion (yes, billion) cameras in Panopticon. It's not clear if this is a city or a country. There are also six million criminals today according to the trailer compared to 126.6 million in Panopticon..

We see some of the footage from the original trailer in which a robotic security service uses numbers above people's heads to catagorise and arrest them if necessary.

Population growth today worldwide stands at 118% while Panopticon's population remains static and the male/female balance is exactly 50/50. It also seems that in this desolate future the world's oil reserves have been utterly depleted. The deathtoll from war stands at 1.24 billion (presumably due to the resource shortages) and the average work hours comes to 18 hours per day.

In addition, no one is found innocent by Panopticon's criminal justice system. While the sentence in prison is 1,000,000 – it's not entirely clear if this is year or what measure of time is being used. However, one million seems to be an important number in the game.

The rest of the trailer shows a boss battle from the original trailer.
