Ask a sample of JRPG fans which is the best game in the Final Fantasy series, and many will say Final Fantasy VII. However, the PS1 classic might have a bit of competition from its SNES predecessor, Final Fantasy VI, released out West as the chronologically confused Final Fantasy III. Who can forget the opera scene? Performing a suplex on the Phantom Train? The epic four-movement final boss theme, "Dancing Mad"?
Nobuo Uematsu, legendary composer for the Final Fantasy series up through the eleventh installment, would love to be able to recapture that same magic by bringing all the original players together for a new project. In a recent interview as interpreted by NeoGAF user Hayama Akito, Uematsu is speaking with Square Enix about the possibility of making a new 2D RPG using the same team that developed Final Fantasy VI, including series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, who left Square Enix to found Mistwalker.
Before anyone gets too excited, these are just talks for the time being. But could you imagine how amazing this would be if all the pieces fell into place?
